Lavender Festival

Lavender Festival 24×36 in.| Oil on Linen Complete Information » YET ANOTHER, BUT LARGER painting of the lavender garden I spent time in in June. This time it’s an image of the complete farm. In a future piece I’ll include the dozens of adults and children, festive tents and activities. But for this painting I simply wanted folks to enjoy the garden itself. An additional photo of the location along with my easel and painting. I sat to do paint so I could be at eye-level with the house – looking across the lavender field, rather than stand with a downward vantage point. Also, you can see that I elected to edit-out the black tarp and shells in lieu of the clay soil.

New Painting: Good Morning

Good Morning 16×20 in.| Oil on Linen Complete Information » NOT A VERY ORIGINAL TITLE, but simplicity is what this painting is about! The second in a series of several pieces from a nearby lavender garden. This particular image shows the early morning just as the sun came over trees to the my right, revealing the white and color variations of lavender clusters happy to see a new day. The next piece I will post, is large showing much of the field and the gardener’s home. This and many other paintings are in progress to become a new show of lavender and sunflowers – a great combination!

New Painting: Awaiting the Harvest

Awaiting The Harvest 14×18 in.| Oil on Linen Complete Information » SOME OF YOU have been awaiting the display of recent paintings I created in the only known lavender farm in North Carolina. I was amazed that this farm existed much less be so beautiful! As part of a festival celebrating the summer harvest – just a week before the lavender was to be cut – painters were invited to capture the garden. The public too, came to purchase and make items from the fresh lavender. There was even chocolate ice cream with the blossoms as flavoring. This is the first and smallest of several pieces I will offer…the best is yet to come!

New Gallery Representative

The Wired Bean IT’S BEEN MANY YEARS since my work has been available through anything but “galleries”. I have exhibited in restaurants, small malls and the like in the past. About a month ago, one of my friends (also one of my collectors), purchased a high-end coffee shop in Lexington, SC, just outside of Columbia. It is part of a great, huge old mill that has and continues to be renovated with specialty stores of every kind. My friend invited me to fill the shop with paintings to provide an inviting, warm look and be my sole gallery representative in South Carolina. Now eighteen paintings adorn the walls of this cozy restaurant that rivals anyone “coffee-wise”. The current painting theme is French and American gardens. If you live or travel through Lexington, please stop by the The Wired Bean at 711 East Main Street, Suite R, Lexington, SC 29072,...

Site Redesign with More Paintings

Tour Site… AS A WEB DEVELOPER for corporate America for years, I made it a policy to keep my own Web site updated, streamlined and easier to use each time it went through a redesign. Since 1995, I have had a number of designs for my painting gallery. Just last September, I stepped-out and created a Flash animated site. I have received more negative feedback for that site and more praise for my previous design. So…I have revamped and restyled my site of early 05 to bring back the warmth visitors said they experienced. Flash is a great tool, but for art galleries it can be a bit too “techie” if not handled carefully. Plus, there are still some who are not used to Flash technology. I am forward thinking, nevertheless, when it comes to users like yourself, ease of use rules. I am marketing paintings, and as an...

Spotting Paintings Done From Photos!

One tip is to beware of the camera’s wide angle default setting. Shoot your pictures at 100-150mm to achieve a ‘normal’ life-size image. This will keep you from painting built-in distortions most artists are not aware of yet savvy artists and jurors can see.
